Native Americans in Fairfield
Posted by Janice ShannonWe enjoyed a great day learning about all the food our area residents ate many years ago. Our own Chef David came into our class and showed us the many types of fish Native Americans ate. He showed us a large stomach and a small dark heart from a red snapper. We opened clams and mussels. The hit was the live lobster that crawled around our table while our chef pointed out the various parts to a lobster. The claws were big and had big teeth on them. One was smaller than the other which we learned held things so the lobster could eat. The big claw was used for fighting. We enjoyed a nice snack after chef David cooked things up. Did you know that a lobster turns a red color when it is cooked in a pot? After our feast we painted our fish and made a print on rice paper so we could remember our great day!
