Specialists at the most important time
Our faculty are the personification of our mission and our truly inspired experts in lower through middle school education. Teachers at Unquowa get to know and understand their students, building strong relationships that empower each child to develop both intellectually and emotionally, while exploring and pushing their boundaries confidently. Through our uniquely flexible approach to academics, our teachers are able to create more personal learning experiences that allow children to discover and optimize their individual talents, strengths, and establish a genuine, lifelong love of learning during this critical developmental time.

Ms. Lauer came to head Unquowa School in 2004 after spending over twenty years in teaching and leadership positions at other independent schools in the Northeast. Drawing from her own experience as an independent school teacher and raising a son and daughter – both of whom attended independent day schools and colleges – she writes and speaks frequently about the various aspects of childhood and a school’s role in working with parents to raise and educate their children. As a steward of our school’s future, Ms. Lauer works to maintain the vigorous, experiential academic atmosphere that has been the hallmark of the school since its inception in 1917.

Ms. Gordon joined Unquowa in 2006 after beginning her career in business and later transitioning to education. She taught third and fourth grades for more than fifteen years and served in several academic leadership roles before becoming Assistant Head of School. Drawing on her experience in both public and independent schools, Ms. Gordon works to advance Unquowaâs academic mission and support the continued growth of the school.

Mrs. Cerone joined the Unquowa School community in 2006. Along with previous experience in both the larger business world and the independent school setting, Mrs. Cerone has a keen sense of her role in the financial stability of the school.

Mrs. Costa joined Unquowa School in 2026 after more than a decade in admissions, marketing and communications. She began her career as a second grade teacher before moving into enrollment management, where she developed a passion for helping families find school communities in which children can thrive. Drawing on her experience in both independent and faith-based schools, Mrs. Costa enjoys building relationships with prospective families, sharing the Unquowa story, and welcoming new students into the community.

Jacqui Mudre joined Unquowa in 2016, having previously spent 9 years at a charter school in Bridgeport, CT. Over time, her role has grown into her current position as Director of Communications and member of the Advancement Team. She studied at the Sydney College of the Arts and especially enjoys working alongside colleagues, families, and alumni to celebrate and share the life of the Unquowa community.
