2025 Winterfest – Free to Fly
Posted by Patty CarverWe began at a block party just outside the Paperback Café, the Kingdom’s favorite gathering place. Everyone in the Kingdom was there, including the Prince and Princesses. King Miles and Queen Salma were not pleased that their children were attending (gasp!) a block party! They cannot believe that their children are hobnobbing with the masses. Upon discovering the Prince and Princesses at the block party, King Miles and Queen Salma learned that Princess Maria released butterflies into the Kingdom, causing turmoil among the citizens… The King and Queen did not like the butterflies! So Princess Maria gathers up all the butterflies and tries to find a safe and peaceful place for them.
Back at the castle, the King and Queen reminded their children that their behavior was beneath their royal stature. To add insult to injury, the Prince and Princesses revealed each of their heartfelt passions and dreams – to become a poet, farmer, cook, cabaret singer, and entomologist. They are promptly grounded!
In the meantime, Vladimir Stonefly, the Kingdom’s Pest Management Technician, had taken it upon himself to rid the Kingdom of the butterflies, and the chase was on. The Prince and Princesses sneaked out of the castle, seeking help from their friends at the Paperback Café, Lydia Veneer and Anna Spring. When Stonefly found them at the café, Lydia and Anna helped the royals escape in a unique way… by book!
The chase took on an unlikely journey to Kansas, where we meet a few characters from The Wizard of Oz, and to The Heath, where the witches of The Scottish Play threatened the very existence of the Kingdom of Unquowa. Did the royals save the butterflies? Did they escape from Vladimir Stonefly? Did the Kingdom of Unquowa survive? All was revealed in a magical performance as the story unfolded in Free to Fly, Winterfest 2025!
2nd Grade – Together, Wherever We Go
Posted by emilyhallSecond grade was fabulous with this performance! I love teaching students about musicals from the past and present and they love it too. This song from Gypsy really connected with our second graders and they did a great job on stage! Here at Unquowa we are Together, Wherever We Go!
Spoon Full of Sugar
Posted by emilyhallWhat a fun performance with spoons and high c’s aplenty. Every child is different in their want to be on stage and to sing. This first grade class worked with me to design a performance they all felt good about doing. I am so proud of them. Great job!
Golden!
Posted by David CoeWhen I suggested “Golden” from KPop Demon Hunters as an assembly performance piece to our 5th grade instrumental class, the choice was met with unanimous enthusiasm! The melody is both challenging and rhythmically complex, and the students handled it with impressive skill. Our arrangement featured students showcasing their expertise on ukulele, piano, and percussion. Well done, 5th grade!
When I Grow Up
Posted by emilyhallBravo! As one parent said, “Their hearts were so in it… the students gave the Broadway cast a run for their money”. I am so proud of the 4th grade class, not only did they want to do this song, they worked together as a team and it showed.
In the Hall of Mountain King!
Posted by David CoeThe 6th grade instrumental ensemble gave a spooky performance of “In The Hall Of The Mountain King” at this morning’s assembly. The class added a touch of “heavy metal” flair with electric guitars and percussion! Nice work, 6th grade!
