Seasons Change
Posted by Carlene GordonWhy do we have seasons? Ask a fourth grader! During a recent science class, fourth graders used models to answer this question. After identifying and labeling the northern and southern hemispheres on a globe, students carefully rested their globes on top of cups on a tilt to represent Earth’s axis. Of the two globes used, one represented the northern hemisphere in the winter and one represented the same hemisphere in the summer. Using a light bulb in the center (sun) students were able to clearly observe how the sun’s rays hit Earth at different times of the year and infer that longer amounts of sun causes warmer temperatures and longer days…something we are all looking forward to!
