Where’s the Beach?
Posted by Sarah PollexEach year the volleyball unit begins with beach balls. Because they are large and light, beach balls facilitate the learning process. Lower School students use them for the entire unit while Upper School students transition to regulation volleyballs after one week. Students become skilled with the serve (underhand and/or overhand) the pass, set and spike. They also demonstrate an understanding of rules and scoring, strategies, movement and spacing during game play. Most importantly, the larger objective is that students appreciate the value of volleyball skills as lifetime learners–for that next visit at the beach!
