PreK-4 Beekeepers
Posted by Mary CurranDid you know that bees make different flavors and shades of honey? That’s because they collect nectar from a variety of flowers. PreK-4 students learned this fact and many more when local beekeeper, Eric Frisk, visited their classroom. They enjoyed trying on special veiled hats and long leather gloves that beekeepers wear to protect themselves from getting stung. Students passed around a smoker, an important piece of equipment used to calm the bees when it’s time to harvest the honey. They got a close-up view of the honeycomb and learned that it can be melted down to make beeswax candles. Most of all students loved tasting the delicious local honey from Mr. Frisk’s beehives!
