Seventh Graders Put Their Fingers, Backs, and Eyes Into It, Me Laddies
Posted by Craig KnebelTeachers from the humanities, math and science departments led the combined seventh and eighth grades on a cross-curricular exploration of Mystic Seaport. They worked in the wood shop using simple machines like wedges, inclined planes, screws and pulleys and students were able to observe the forces and motion of maritime vessels. They experimented with using the sextant in navigation at the planetarium. And, the kids beefed up their geography skills by uncovering the great maritime search for longitude, and explored navigation and geography of the 19th century on board the Charles W Morgan and other ships.
