Disconnecting to Reconnect…
Posted by Lloyd MitchellIn a world where everything and seemingly everyone is connected, learning to disconnect is an important skill. Recently during advisory, I took my homeroom outside for an activity that involved learning a strategy for this very skill. We ventured to the outskirts of the school property and found a spot where we could not see or hear each other. I instructed them to get comfortable because they would be sitting there for the next 20 minutes with no talking or interaction. As time passed, some seemed anxious for it to end and others could have stayed there forever. Once time was up, we reconvened and talked about the experience of disconnecting from everything. Some felt their senses of noises around them heightened to new levels. Others felt relaxed, especially those by the river. Many found this exercise to be incredibly valuable and even talked about trying it at home, finding their peaceful area!
