Makerspace Individual Projects: Be
Posted by Jamie BartelsSometimes we have students come down to the MakerSpace with an individual project they would like to complete in their flex time over the course of a day or several days. In these cases I act strictly in advisory capacity. The students propose their ideas then I help them find the right tool and, if necessary, teach them how to use it. This series of posts, Makerspace Individual Projects, highlights these individual projects which otherwise may go unnoticed.
This project by Noah was intended as a gift for one of the teachers here at Unquowa. It now sits on a blue bulletin board outside that teacher’s office, surrounded by all sorts of ideas of what you can be. Noah used Adobe Illustrator to design the letters and then worked with me in the makerspace to set up toolpaths for the CNC router to cut his design on a piece of wood. He then used a drill to put hold-down holes into the wood and to place the hold-down screws. To finish the letters once they had been cut by the CNC router, Noah used sandpaper and files. He came up with the mounting solution — a few tacks.
See if you can find his work in the school!
