We couldn’t have asked for better weather for the fifth and sixth grade field experience to Storm King Art Center in New York. An outdoor sculpture park located on 500 acres of beautiful grounds, Storm King has over 100 large-scale sculptures by renowned artists. We began our visit with a docent-led tour of the grounds, stopping to view and discuss works from diverse artists such as Nam June Paik and Ursula von Rydingsvard. We then walked down to the south side of the park where environmental artist Andy Goldsworthy’s stone wall is located. The students had learned about how the wall was built and the inspiration behind it prior to our visit, and the sixth graders spent time sketching and writing while the fifth graders participated in a mindful walk led by Mrs. Faulkner. It was an incredible day to be able to walk around outside and to appreciate the achievements of artists alongside the beauty of nature. It was a trip that will be remembered for a long time!
