Objectives, Tactics, and Obstacles (Oh My)!
Posted by Alyson CahillAfter-School Improv for 5th-8th grade students continues in full swing. We are having so much fun learning new activities, and I am continuously impressed by the students’ talents! Last week we learned some basic – but very valuable – acting skills when we played the game “Bus Stop.” One actor would sit in a chair, which was the very best seat on a crowded city bus. Each actor took turns approaching the bus passenger with the goal – or objective – to get the passenger to move. Without using physical contact, they had to think of various strategies – tactics – to meet their objective. The passenger, on the other hand, would provide resistance – obstacles – to them achieving their goal. It is a fantastic exercise in creating character, committing to a scene, and building focus!
