Replacing Judgment with Curiosity
Posted by Eric SnowLast week, 7th Graders were tasked with engaging with a famous speech by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie called “The Danger of a Single Story” to unpack the idea of how stereotypes can impact how we view others. This lesson is crucial for us to discuss before we begin the short stories and novels we will be reading in our Global Studies course this year. Interacting with the unfamiliar can bring up these “single stories” for everyone, and being aware of them allows us to be open to being curious about others, or even to asking the helpful question “What else might be true?”
