Mental Wellness and Skill Building!
Posted by Wendy KerrToday is World Mental Health Day. In honor of that, I have devoted the day to lessons that incorporate mental wellness and skill building for students. In Morning Meeting our activity was to practice radical listening with a partner. Students reported feeling heard and appreciated getting to share their experiences one on one. During mindfulness students learned about the history of mandalas and colored in their own. Additionally, students added to their mindfulness jars and used them as a tool for settling their thoughts and feelings. Finally, in science students learned about two key parts of their brain: the amygdala and the prefrontal cortex. Third graders learned how to use their breath as a way to get these two parts of the brain to work together!
