Wolf Stew!
Posted by Faith BarbutoHow to commemorate finishing a great book? Well, in Pre-K we have spent the last month reading every version we could find of the Three Little Pigs and we celebrated the end of this unit with a delicious pot of wolf stew! In fact, almost every aspect of our days has been woven into the age old fairy tale. We compared and contrasted many versions, adding in some written in Spanish and set in Spanish speaking areas to honor Hispanic heritage month. We counted sticks, made houses and practiced patterning and sequencing using the story for math lessons. We made puppets for our story and used our new skills of facial expression to show both a happy pig and a scared pig! We also used making the wolf puppets as a time to talk about things that scare us, we will be talking about fears and how to soothe them next month. We even read some versions of the story that looked at the Wolf’s point of view, developing empathy and understanding how another person feels. Of course the highlight of our unit was making and eating wolf stew. Everyone loved helping add the vegetables, thankfully Chef Adam had already chopped up the wolf! A huge thank you to the Chef Helen for delighting our senses by letting us help prepare the stew. (No real wolves were harmed in this activity.)
