Wolf Stew!
Posted by Faith BarbutoAfter reading every version and adaptation of the Three Little Pigs we could find, our Pre-K chefs set out to make wolf stew. I took on the daunting task of acquiring the wolf, which is ironically enough smoked ham hocks, but the rest of the work was done by the class! The eager students were brave enough to peek in the pot to see the wolf and then it was their turn to get cooking. I slightly boiled the carrots and potatoes to make them soft enough to cut but firm enough to still be a challenge. Each child cut up one potato and some carrots while others were peeling garlic for me to chop. Next we used a trick taught to me by my Italian mother in law, squeezing the whole tomatoes by hand. For some, this was definitely the most fun part! After each child got to sniff the chopped up garlic, we dumped it all in my trusty crockpot to simmer all day. Our room smelled a lot like Sunday dinner!
