- Adjusting the specimen and lense.
- Plant Cells from algae. The dark green around the edges are the cell walls, the purple is the nucleus. If you look really close you can see other organelles in the cytoplasm (light green material).
- Bone marrow.
The 7th graders have started out this school year diving into the microscopic world and learning all about biology. The first couple of weeks were spent learning about different types of cells (plant cells vs animal cells vs prokaryotic cells), cell structures and their functions. Students have also learned the difference between a unicellular organism (a single celled organism) and multicellular organism (an organism made of more than one cell). Once our gators gained a base understanding of cells, we busted out the microscopes to observe various objects under different magnifications. Objects observed included; sand, dirt, celery stalks, onion, lettuce leafs, wood chips, hair, skin, bone marrow, water and paper. Students made notes of which objects had cells and what type of cells they contained based off the structure. In the end, the students have gained a whole new appreciation for the world that may seem invisible to the naked eye.
