Heirloom Lettuce
Posted by Mary CurranFourth graders have been learning about heirloom fruits and vegetables. The seeds from heirlooms are often saved from generation to generation and are considered by many to have exceptional taste, color and smell. Students chose fruits and vegetables to research during environmental science and are presently completing botanical drawings in art. In addition, they will be creating seed packets for their heirlooms in technology. In early March, fourth graders started two heirloom varieties of lettuce, Grandpa Admire’s and Amish Deer tongue, in the Grow Lab. Look for these heirlooms and many more in the Unquowa Garden this spring!
