Posted by Lisa HaseltineUnquowa students, wearing circles, polka dots or pi T-shirts, celebrated Pi Day on March 13th, one day before the official 3.14 date. At our weekly assembly, eighth graders Elizabeth, Ayana and Sasha spoke about the mathematical properties of pi and its importance in the world around us. For the younger students, bubbles, pattern matching and compass designs provided the circles for the day. Fifth graders created pi code bracelets, while sixth graders competed to see who could memorize more digits of pi. By measuring the radius and circumference of a variety of circular objects, seventh graders endeavored to verify the relationship “circumference divided by diameter = pi.” Eighth graders used the internet to discover answers to pi trivia questions.
The activities for each grade were enthusiastically presented by Ayana, Elizabeth, Olivia, Sasha, Clara, Conner, Patrick, Carson, Christopher, Ben, Akash, Quinn, Walter and Siddharth. They did an outstanding job of presenting a fun-filled day.
