The Duke’s Men of Yale
Posted by Megan KirkThe chorus students in grades six through eight had a wonderful workshop with the all-male acappella group from Yale! We started by warming up along side the group. Then they sang a favorite song of theirs to us. After, we sang one of our accapella pieces to them, Mon Coeur – a French Madrigal, and they were very impressed with our sound! We then had a question and answer session where students asked about everything from their practice schedule to when they first became vocalists. After this we learned how to use our voices for percussion! Each acapella group usually has a vocal percussionist, or beat boxer. Then we learned a short song that we sang a few times with them. It was great!
After the workshop the group put on a fun show for the entire school! There were some familiar songs, along with some songs we had never heard before. The students were impressed with how the group was able to make such a strong sound with just their voices!
