A Day of Palpitations and Calculations
Posted by Craig KnebelYes, the eighth graders went to an amusement park for their science final. Forces, motion and energy are at the core of all amusement park rides. Our students calculated acceleration and the work done to lift a roller coaster and identified its areas of highest kinetic energy. They examined the centripetal forces in both the pirate pendulum ride and the carousel. They also calculated momentum after a collision at the bumper cars.
