Have your students been using your cups for purposes other than drinking? Perhaps for percussion? The song “Cups” is very popular right now and students can not get enough of it! We decided to put this to good use in chorus! The rhythmic section of the song is actually performed with cups, and many of the students learned this rhythm on their own. Recently, we had students lead and teach this rhythm to the entire chorus. Students made connections with the music theory we practice in class and the rhythm found in this song. It also strengthened their skill of keeping a steady beat throughout a song.
