Sometimes the best things to happen are unplanned. Recently, one of my seventh graders came into snack raving about the television program The New Girl. She also told me that she had translated the show’s theme song into Spanish. Being a fan of the show myself, I asked to take a look. We made a few adjustments to the lyrics, at which point we had piqued several more students’ interest. The trio began singing the Spanish lyrics. One thing lead to another and we decided to make a few props and to use the song as a surprise warm-up activity for the day. What a fun way to start the class!
