As we prepare for our Guatemalan visiting students to depart next week, we are making the most of our last few classes with them. Jose visited seventh grade to help them create a special piece of art called an “alfombra” (rug). These “rugs” are typically prepared during Holy Week in Guatemala. A custom made mold along with a special colored sand called “aserrín” is used to create the “rug.” Jose made two molds; one to represent his school logo in Guatemala and one to represent Unquowa’s school logo. Students worked together to follow Jose’s lead and create a beautiful Holy Week “alfombra.” Special thanks for Ana Cristina’s additional guidance!
