Alfombra de Semana Santa
Posted by Katie BrennaAs we prepare for our Guatemalan visiting students to depart next week, we are making the most of our last few classes with them. Jose visited seventh grade to help them create a special piece of art called an “alfombra” (rug). These “rugs” are typically prepared during Holy Week in Guatemala. A custom made mold along with a special colored sand called “aserrĂn” is used to create the “rug.” Jose made two molds; one to represent his school logo in Guatemala and one to represent Unquowa’s school logo. Students worked together to follow Jose’s lead and create a beautiful Holy Week “alfombra.” Special thanks for Ana Cristina’s additional guidance!
