Between the Tides
Posted by Bobby BrennanThe fourth graders visited the Maritime Aquarium as part of their science class. They participated in the Maritime’s “Between the Tides” program. The class was split into small groups of two or three. Each group was given a board with a depiction of three different habitats of the inter-tidal zone in Long Island Sound: water, sand, rocks. The students examined a series of animals such as crabs, clams, and sea stars and were asked to determine where each creature was most likely to reside based on their knowledge of animal adaptations and behaviors. Of course, before and after the program students were given the opportunity to visit the rest of the museum; they couldn’t pass up a chance to see the sharks!
