Brook Observations
Posted by Carlene GordonFourth graders took advantage of the warm weather by doing an in depth brook observation. Students walked right into the warm brook water to search for life forms and examine the condition of the banks. As students carefully picked up and examined submerged rocks they were soon heard calling out, “I found a snail!” or “Are these eggs?” Meanwhile other students used nets to catch aquatic insects and even a couple of fish. Students were then careful to put everything back the way they found it to leave as little trace of our visit as possible. Our lesson was concluded with a mindful moment of silence sitting on the banks listening to the sounds of the brook.
