Building Ensemble in Upper School Drama
Posted by Alyson CahillIn Upper School Drama, we have been developing all sorts of fantastic skills this year – onstage presentation style, vocal techniques and projection, and even learning History when we talk about pantomime (which has its origins in Ancient Greece) and radio dramas (which gained popularity during the Great Depression and WW2)! However, the most important element of Drama class is that we build a strong ensemble as actors. Students have learned that ensemble – the French word for “together” – is critical not only in theatre, but in any art form. When a class is a strong ensemble, they are able to work together as performers in a non-judgmental, respectful, and supportive way. In Drama, we do many activities that strengthen our own sense of ensemble. Our group warm-ups, presentations, games, and reflections always emphasize the notion that we are consistently working and growing together as artists! The students have already shown that they are a strong ensemble during full group share days and it’s very exciting to watch!
