Can You Find Me?
Posted by Carlene GordonIn a study of animal behaviors, third graders recently investigated camouflage. To survive in the wild, sometimes animals use their environment to blend in and go unseen by would-be predators. After examining many real life examples of camouflage by color, texture and movement, our third graders created their own creatures with the classroom as the “habitat.” After paying close attention to color, shape and texture of potential hiding places, these creatures were placed around the room for our classmates to find. While locating a good hiding place the only caveat was that the creatures had to be left out in open view. An easy task to find them, thought many. However, as the search began, students discovered how effective camouflage can be to blend into one’s environment.
