Creative Clay Masks
Posted by Krissy PondenThe eighth grade has been working on sculpting clay masks with unusual and exciting results. Starting with a plastic facial form, they first applied a layer of clay to create a basic template. After that they were allowed to let their creativity run wild and transform their mask into any fantastical creature they could imagine. This project required them to utilize their previously learned ceramic skills including advanced handbuilding techniques. Forest spirits, creatures from the blue lagoon and even an angel/devil emerged from the minds of the students. The masks were fired and then painted and finally glazed to bring out their true colors. They will be on display at our all school art show in May!
