In fourth grade music we have been working on feeling the eighth note. When looking at two eighth notes in a rhythm exercise, students had the tendency to speed up their rhythm instead of evenly clapping the eighth notes as half of a beat. To help them feel this division better I introduced this silly circle game which has students perform a clapping game where each of the different claps with their partner is equal to an eighth note. Students were easily able to feel the value of an eighth note after this game!
