Eighth graders have eagerly begun delivering speeches at assembly this month, beginning our Eighth Grade Speaker Series. Walter and Clara have started off the year with interesting topics. Walter’s speech, Time Sails By gave personal information about his sailing experience and how he came to love the sport. Clara’s speech, Learning About Other Cultures, discussed the importance of appreciating differences in cultures.

Eighth graders spend time planning, composing, editing, and revising their written speeches; developing a visual component; and, practicing their public speaking skills while preparing to deliver their speeches. It is a challenging process with great rewards.
