Flower Dissection in Science
Posted by Joshua Bartosiewicz- Hard at work!
- Deciphering plant parts!
- “There’s so many more parts than I thought!”
- Students taking a closer look with a magnifying glass!
- Completely dissected Lily. The student seperated and grouped the various parts. (ovary, style, stigma, filaments, anthers and sepals)
We were excited to be able to squeeze in a final lab before winter break! The 7th graders have been learning about plants, animals, genes and heredity recently. In this lab, students were able to dissect a flower (a Lily) to get a first hand look at the various parts of the plants reproductive system. The 7th graders separated the parts of the flower and explained the importance of each part and included which kind of animals they think would be attracted to the flower and help pollinate them. By the end of the lab, the scholars started a classroom discussion on the purpose of this activity which helped further explain the structure and functions of flowers and animals.
