Girls’ Green Plays St. Luke’s
Posted by Marybeth LaneThe Girls’ Green team traveled to New Canaan yesterday to play the girls at St. Luke’s. It was tied at 8-8 until the last minute of the game when St. Luke’s point guard threw up a ‘long shot’ from the right of the court and it literally bounced on the rim twice before it fell through the net securing St. Luke’s lead 10-8. With 35 seconds to go, I called a timeout to set up a screen play to get one of our shooters open.Game time ensued with 35 seconds on the clock…Lucy took the ball out, Lisi set a screen for Sophia to get open on the right side. The screen was set, Sophia got the pass and dribbled closer to the basket. The clock showed 20 seconds. Sophia shot the ball right outside the paint. The ball did not go in. St. Luke’s got the rebound and dribbled up the court, taking up the last 5 seconds on the clock. The buzzer sounded and the crowd went wild for St. Luke’s. But our girls came off the court with their heads held high. We are hoping for a rematch at the end of the season and surely we will give them another close game, just as we did today.
We have practice next Wednesday and Thursday.
