Grade 4 Working with Numbers to 1,000,000!
Posted by Karen EngelkeGrade 4 students have been working hard to learn to read and write numbers up to 1,000,000. Concepts of place value are being reviewed and extended to 1,000,000. Familiarity with place value will provide students the foundation they need for comparing, ordering, and adding and subtracting multi-digit whole numbers. Students are encountering pace value chips for the first time. Using the chips, students can handle very large numbers concretely. This provides a pictorial framework for students to visualize the concept of trading across place values. Finally, playing Place Value Yahtzee helped them to solidify their knowledge through the use of this familiar game.
