The 5th grade recently visited the Birdcraft Museum to observe bird banding! Bird banding is one of the oldest and most important techniques used for collecting important data during spring and fall migration. The field trip was a hands on extension of their unit on Birds and Our Earth. It was fascinating to see how the Banders gently handled the captured birds, collected the necessary data and then let many of the students release them safely back into the wild.
