How Do We Write in Chinese?
Posted by Teresa HsiaoIn first grade, our students will begin to develop literacy skills in Chinese systematically. One of the fundamental rules for writing Chinese is to be mindful of each character’s stroke order. Stroke order will increase the accuracy of the students’ written output and assist students’ ability to commit to memory new written vocabulary words. Our first graders have been practicing writing characters in correct stroke order by doing rainbow writing with crayons. They begin writing each character by using red for the first stroke, green for the second stroke, blue for third stroke, etc. Some first graders particularly enjoyed singing the color song while they practiced writing in Chinese. Our eager learners have been proud of their ability to produce colorful Chinese characters accurately!
