Internationally-Acclaimed Author Visits 7th Grade
Posted by Eric SnowOn November 30th, Dr. Marjorie Agosín, author of numerous poems and books, including Unquowa’s Humanities 7 class text, I Lived on Butterfly Hill, visited the 7th Grade. She discussed her life as a young Jewish woman during the 1973 Chilean coup d’état and answered numerous, curious questions from students about the book they read.
As a refugee and immigrant, Dr. Agosín’s experience is profound and relevant. As she discussed her reasons for becoming a poet and writer, she shared: “I’ve spent my whole life recovering what was lost… Because I lost so much, I became a recollector of the family’s memories – a gatherer of stories.”
The 7th Grade was grateful for their time learning and talking with Dr. Agosín, and we wish her all the best as she travels back home to Chile this week!
