Kindergarten Ornithologists
Posted by Mary CurranThis month, kindergartners learned all about birds. They visited the Unquowa bird feeding station, used field guides for identification and discovered the importance of field marks. In addition, kindergartners learned about beak adaptations by visiting stations and experimenting with “bird beak” tools to see which worked best for collecting food. Students were challenged to use chopsticks, tweezers, eye droppers and strainers to pick up spaghetti (worms), raisins (crawling insects) and floating vegetation. Kindergartners enjoyed learning first-hand the importance of the size, shape and strength of a bird’s beak.
