La Concordancia
Posted by Katie BrennaSixth grade students broke into four teams to put their “concordancia” (agreement) skills to the test. As with any language, the mastery of agreement concepts is key. Should this word be singular or plural? Is it masculine or feminine? Does my adjective jive with the noun it is modifying? Does my subject match up with my verb? These are just some of the questions that an expert language student examines to correctly maneuver a language. Not always the most fun questions to ponder, I will admit. To help engage students, an agreement game was put into play in the classroom. Four teams representing the four definite articles (el, la, los, las) had to listen to a noun spoken aloud, identify it as singular or plural and as either masculine or feminine. Once in agreement, the team had to state the complete noun in Spanish and it’s translation in English to successfully gain a point. Knowledge of Spanish grammar, speed, precision and teamwork were all factors at play. Talk about a heated competition!
