Language Learners – Virtual Poetry Contest
Posted by Carina BlackwellEach year, the Connecticut Council of Language Teachers (CTCOLT) hosts a virtual poetry contest, inviting students from 7th to 12th grades across Connecticut to showcase their talents by reciting poetry through Zoom in the languages they study.
This year, six students from Unquowa participated, competing in either Mandarin or Spanish against over three hundred language learners from various independent and public schools. Students received poems suited to their level, and teachers assisted in providing insights into their meanings. During the recitation, students stood before their virtual audience and were evaluated on their fluency, body language, and comprehension of the poem.
We are proud to announce that three students from Unquowa won the contest in the top three: Vivian won gold for her Middle School Level II Mandarin recitation, Riley earned silver with Middle School Level I Mandarin poem, and Nerushka secured bronze for her heritage Spanish poem. Congratulations to all participants for their hard work and dedication!
