Las Dos Fridas
Posted by Katie BrennaFifth grade students recently observed the artwork of Frida Kahlo as part of our study of Mexico. They took a special look at a piece called Las dos Fridas, a famous work that shows two different sides of the same person. Students were charged with creating their own piece of art depicting two different sides of their own personality. The results were creative, informative and funny! Students wrote a description of their art and shared both the artwork and the description with the class. Each student also had the opportunity to listen to their peers’ interpretations of the artwork. To complete this unit of study, students dressed as Frida and performed mini-skits. Students got so into character that they adopted the last name “Kahlo” as their own!
