¿Mamá puedo?
Posted by Katie BrennaIt is a sad moment in the classroom when you realize that by mentioning the game “Mother May I?” you have dated yourself! A happy moment in the class, is to realize that you get to introduce this classic game to students and they can enjoy it still! Eighth graders recently learned the imperative tense in Spanish. It’s very common to give commands in Spanish, so we actually have many ways of doing this. What better way to practice than with some childlike competition? I played the part of the mother as students practiced asking politely to do various tasks. “May I jump five times ahead on one foot?” As mother, I had the right to deny requests and give subsequent commands of what needed to be done instead. A fun lesson in following commands and being polite to Mom. A true classic!
