Mindfulness Works!!!!
Posted by Janice ShannonRecently one of my students realized that Mom did not pack the bear in her backpack that she wanted to share with her friends so she began to cry and whine for a while. None of my suggestions were working until I mentioned that we could all do mindful activity together that should help her to stop crying. She said O.K., so we got started with a lovely glass container that I filled with water from the sink. As I placed it on the table, there were oxygen bubbles forming at the top so I told the students that they had to wait until the water was clear before we could move on. They gathered around the container and already things were quieter. I told them to watch very carefully as I dropped a drop of food coloring of each color in the top. The water began to slowly dance with the colors staying away from each other. The children were mesmerized and as their thoughts began to drift, everything became quiet.
