Grade 4 explored the 8 phases of the moon by utilizing Oreo cookies. Students manipulated the frosting in Oreo cookies to visualize the phases of the moon, using the contrast of the frosting and the cookie to represent light and shadows on the surface of the moon as seen from Earth. It was hard work twisting the Oreos open to reveal a fully intact circular piece of white frosting. Even more challenging was not eating them before all 8 phases were complete!
