Picturing Who We Are
Posted by Alice LloydSeventh graders don’t just study world cultures and communities in Humanities class — they picture themselves and their communities in conversation with a global context.
The Creative Connections project is something of an Unquowa tradition: every year history (now Humanities) and visual arts collide for creation of drawings or paintings we will send to our partner schools, which vary from year to year. Every year the drawings relate to a different theme. This year’s is “My Community, My Point of View.”
Today, seventh graders worked on their drawings and got started on accompanying artist’s statements. In the spring, we’ll receive drawings from our partner schools in Russia and Jordan, and they’ll receive ours. We’ll also get to meet our partner artists in the spring when we learn about their communities and points of view via videochat.
