The Magic Word is…ACCEPTANCE!
Posted by Alyson CahillAfter-School Improv for fifth-eighth grade has been meeting once a week since the start of the school year, and students are definitely getting the hang of all things improv! We have covered the basics of improvisation: there is no script, reacting is as important as acting, don’t be funny alone, and most of all, always accept what you are given by your scene partner! By practicing acceptance and saying “yes” to a fellow actor’s suggestion or line, the scene can move forward and take off in all kinds of directions. Some of the group’s favorite activities are Hitchhiker (pictured above), Bus Seat, World’s Worst, Jibberish Translation and Panel of Experts. While these games are a lot of fun, they also emphasize the importance of listening to one another and taking a risk as an actor!
