Virtual Poetry Share
Posted by Carlene GordonOur fourth graders have learned that Haiku is a Japanese form of poetry that contains seventeen syllables. Haiku has three lines; the first line has five syllables, the second line has seven syllables and the third line has five syllables. Haiku is traditionally written about nature and focuses on simplicity and directness of expression. Fourth graders we asked to go outside and free write Haiku on a beautiful spring day. We were so inspired, we decided to share and teach our friends in kindergarten this ancient form of poetry.
