Visiting the Ruby & Calvin Fletcher African American History Museum
Posted by Ariel WarshawAs part of their foundational study of American history and racial justice in Humanities, 8th graders had the opportunity to visit the Ruby & Calvin Fletcher African American History Museum in Stratford, where they viewed exhibits on the Middle Passage, enslavement, Jim Crow America, the Tuskegee Airmen, the Civil Rights Movement, and the legacies of Black Americans on US and global culture. Our students asked poignant questions, analyzed 20th century caricatures and advertisements, and heard personal testimonies. It was an impactful and important morning, filled with both hard history and inspiring stories.
