Walk Like An Egyptian – Not On These Legs!
Posted by Craig KnebelSixth graders studied Egyptian history and mummification in humanities class and minerals in science class. Put them together and you can test the process of mummification. “The methods of embalming, or treating the dead body, that the ancient Egyptians used is called mummification. Using special processes, the Egyptians removed all moisture from the body, leaving only a dried form that would not easily decay.” [Encyclopedia Smithsonian] The students rolled fresh chicken legs in salt; covered them in cheesecloth with ties; weighed the chicken; laid the chicken in salt bed trays with anise spices; waited 40 days and found the average chicken without rot and with about 25% less weight.
