We’re going on a Bug Hunt!
Posted by Fiona EckersleyWe are studying small creatures in PreK-4 this spring. After learning all about the difference between insects, spiders and other “bugs,” we had a special visit from an expert at the Audubon. After we sang our song about the parts of an insect to her, we settled down to see the crawling creatures she brought to show us. Although we were not allowed to touch the tarantula (I really would have), we did get a chance to feel a millipede and listen to an angry hissing cockroach. Next, was a detailed OBSERVATION of butterflies with our magnifying glasses.
Finally we headed outside for a hunt. At first we found plastic bugs so that we could place them in the correct category, however, we soon moved on to carefully looking under leaves, rocks and logs for the real thing. We made sure to replace everything, so as not to disturb the creatures too much.
So much fun!
