What are Chinese Characters?
Posted by Teresa HsiaoOur kindergarten students are discovering that pictograph is the foundation of the modern written Chinese language! So far, they have learned the written characters for moon and sun, and have studied how these two written characters evolved from pictures of the objects to today’s written forms. To enforce the pictograph concept and to help our students recognize new vocabulary words, throughout the year kindergarten students will produce Chinese characters in various art forms and practice formulating characters with open ended materials such as play dough, LEGOS and their body! They have already done so to learn the numbers 1-5.
